Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers can be used on the face and lips to improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles to add volume and improve their appearance. Ageing skin loses its elasticity and can become thin and wrinkled and along with the face losing volume in areas such as the cheeks, and environmental factors such as smoking, pollution and sun exposure, the onset of age becomes apparent. Dermal fillers can be used to treat sleep lines, frown lines, tired eyes, nose to mouth lines, lip volume and definition, mouth corners, above the lip wrinkles, marionette lines, nose shape and earlobe shape amongst many more.
You will have a consultation prior to your cosmetic treatment where you will discuss the reasons for wanting to undertake the procedure as well as the areas that you believe require improvement. Your skin will be assessed for suitability and the procedure and aftercare explained in detail to you.
The dermal fillers we use normally contain a substance called hyaluronic acid which is naturally present in the body and helps to retain moisture in your skin. Hyaluronic acid levels drop as the face ages. Marks will be made on your face where the filler needs to be injected. You may be given an anaesthetic injection, an anaesthetic cream may be applied to the necessary area or the dermal filler solution may have a type of anaesthetic within it. You will be advised on the best method for your treatment during your consultation. Depending on the size of the area being treated, the process of injecting the fillers can take between 30 minutes and 1 hour.
Your treatment will take place in a clinic and does not require a hospital stay. You do not need to take any time off from work although your face will be a little swollen, red and perhaps bruised for a few days immediately afterwards. You should expect to see your results once the swelling has subsided. Specific aftercare will be given to you depending on the areas that you have had injected however avoidance of hot drinks after lip fillers is highly recommended as well as refraining from the use of make up for 12 hours and swapping your moisturiser to a perfume free alternative.
The cost of your treatment will be discussed at your consultation as your skin will need to be assessed and a treatment plan devised for you. Dermal fillers are not permanent can the effects will wear off from anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. You will be advised on the estimated time before renewal during your consultation.
As with any procedure, there are potential risks and complications. These will be discussed with you before any treatment takes place, along with your medical history and you will be provided with comprehensive information in relation to your specific procedure that you can take away and reflect over after your consultation.
