There are a lot of people who are bothered by stomach fat. It is something that affects both men and women, but it’s not a problem that cannot be solved. This is why a lot of people choose to go ahead with either a tummy tuck or liposuction. However, there is a fair amount of confusion in regards to what both of these procedures entail and knowing which is best for you can be confusing. Before making a choice, it’s important to familiarise yourself with what each procedure does and what each procedure involves.
Should You Have a Tummy Tuck or Liposuction?
Though you may assume the two procedures to be similar, there are some key differences between a tummy tuck and liposuction. Before going ahead and deciding which is best for you, consider what makes these two procedures different.
- Tummy Tuck – A tummy tuck is a cosmetic surgery procedure that removes excess skin from around the stomach area and tightens the abdominal muscles. Whereas liposuction is recommended for those who want to remove excess fat, a tummy tuck is more focused on the skin and muscles. It’s often recommended for those who have loose skin they want removed or those with stretched muscle tissue they cannot tighten. A tummy tuck is more invasive of the two procedures and there’s a high chance of scarring.
- Liposuction – Liposuction is the process of removing excess fat from the body. Though it is commonly carried out on the stomach area, liposuction can be performed elsewhere, such as the legs. It’s an effective way of removing areas of fat that have not been removed through diet and exercise. Liposuction is less invasive than a tummy tuck and has a quicker recovery time, but it only focuses on the fat and does not remove excess skin.
If you want to remove excess skin, a tummy tuck is recommended. If you want to remove excess fat, liposuction is likely the better option. To find out more about either of these procedures and for information on which is best for you, get in touch with Dr Frati Cosmetic Surgery.
