If you know anything about cosmetic surgery procedures for women, you will know that breast augmentation is one of the most popular. It’s not uncommon for a woman to be unhappy with the size or shape of her breasts, something that can hugely impact self esteem. This is why a lot of women undergo a breast augmentation. Not only can a breast augmentation leave you feeling a lot happier with the physical appearance of your breasts, but it can also boost confidence. Before undergoing a breast augmentation, it’s important to fully understand what you can expect after the procedure.
Breast Augmentation Aftercare
It doesn’t matter whether you are undergoing a breast reduction, breast enlargement or breast uplift there will be some level of aftercare that you will need to follow. It’s important that you follow the recommended care and advice for after surgery, as this will minimise discomfort and help with healing. Though every breast augmentation procedure is slightly different, the surgery usually takes between 30 minutes and one hour with breast uplifts usually taking slightly longer. It’s after this time that you need to know what to expect.
- An Overnight Stay – Not everyone will require an overnight stay after their breast augmentation, but most choose to. There is a fair amount of pain and discomfort immediately after surgery and movement is minimal, which is why it’s something we recommend. An overnight stay is often beneficial when it comes to feeling comfortable.
- Pain and Discomfort – After a breast augmentation, pain and discomfort should be expected for up to a week. This will subside as time goes on, but painkillers are recommended.
- Time Off Work – You are advised to take at least two weeks off from work after a breast augmentation. Though you will be able to get out of bed and move around during the initial two weeks, it’s important to rest. Things such as childcare and housework can be difficult, which is why a lot of people enlist some additional help.
- No Exercise – To allow for the breast augmentation to heal correctly, we recommend that you avoid exercise for four weeks following the procedure. After four weeks of resting, you should be able to return to normal activity.
